Dubai Travel Guide

Dubai Travel GuideDubai is one of a kind. It is a city like no other city. It is an oddity, even among cities that became part of the big leagues relatively recently, and which are all very specific in their nature. Well, Dubai is the most specific among them, a city that deals only in superlatives: biggest, fastest, largest, highest, most expensive, most fascinating.

Dubai developed on a strip of land between the desert and the ocean, and this hot strip of land, with its main artery Dubai Creek, has always been an important place in middle-east trading. It traded in pearls for centuries, and there is a mention of Dubai from the European pearl traders from the 16th century. The 19th century saw Dubai come under British protectorate that kept the Ottoman Empire at bay, but it was not until the 20th century that modern Dubai began to take its shape. After the decline of pearl trade as a result of the Great Depression it seemed that the city was doomed, but when the British relocated electronics industry, telephone services and an airport things started looking better. In 1966, oil was discovered in Dubai and the city started its incredible development and growth with thousands of immigrants and myriad international companies pouring into the city. Several free zones for conducting business were introduced as well and all of this led to Dubai’s fast transformation into a city of the world, where incredible amounts of money circulate and where all the biggest players make their moves.

This incredibly fast and incredibly intense development and growth gave birth to Dubai as we now know it, a place of incredible wealth , old middle-east charm, and of the most modern and contemporary technology, industries and lifestyle. It is a city where old traditions are still very important and influential, but where all visitors are welcome if they intend to spend or put some money in circulation.

But above all, it is a city of unprecedented luxury for those who are on the affluent side. It is a city that reminds of Roman extravagance, with big players and big companies doing feats just for the sake of them. It is a city of spectacle, where only the most extreme matters. It is a perfect city for well-off individuals to remind themselves what money can do.
